Copyright & Licensing Policy

Copyright & Licensing Policy

The Yemeni Journal of Life Sciences is committed to promoting transparent publishing practices and ensuring that authors retain full control over their scholarly work. To achieve this, the journal adopts a copyright and licensing framework that supports open access, author rights, and global dissemination.

1. Copyright Ownership

Authors retain full copyright to their published work without restrictions.
By submitting a manuscript, authors agree to grant the journal a non-exclusive license to publish, archive, and distribute the article.

This means:

  • Authors keep complete ownership of their work
  • Authors may reuse their material in future publications
  • Authors may deposit their work in any repository
  • No permission from the journal is required for reuse

2. License for Published Content (CC BY 4.0)

All articles in the journal are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

Under this license, users are free to:

  • Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format
  • Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material
  • Use for commercial or non-commercial purposes

Provided that:

  • Proper attribution is given to the original authors
  • A link to the CC license is included
  • Any changes are indicated

3. Author Rights Under CC BY

Authors may freely:

  • Archive the published article on personal websites
  • Deposit the article in institutional repositories
  • Share the published PDF on social or academic networks
  • Reuse figures, tables, or portions of the article in other works
  • Present the content in conferences, lectures, and academic events

No embargo period applies.

4. Third-Party Content

Authors must ensure that:

  • Any third-party images, figures, or tables included in the article are properly licensed
  • Permissions are obtained where required
  • Copyright restrictions are respected

The journal may request proof of permissions during the review or production process.

5. Supplementary Materials

Supplementary files (data sets, videos, images, protocols, appendices) are published under the same CC BY 4.0 license unless authors specify otherwise at submission.

6. Licensing of Metadata

The journal releases article metadata under a public domain or open license to support indexing, discovery, and citation:

  • Title
  • Authors and affiliations
  • Abstract
  • Keywords
  • References
  • DOI and publication details

This ensures wide dissemination across indexing platforms (Google Scholar, Crossref, DOAJ, etc.).

7. Use of Published Material

Readers may:

  • Copy
  • Download
  • Print
  • Share
  • Translate
  • Adapt

the published articles without needing permission from the journal, as long as proper attribution is provided.

8. Publisher Responsibilities

The journal ensures that:

  • All published articles include the correct license statement
  • Copyright information appears clearly on the article PDF
  • Licensing terms are included in article metadata
  • Published content remains permanently accessible

9. Protection Against Copyright Violations

If copyright infringement or improper reuse is reported:

  • The editorial office will investigate the claim
  • Authors will be notified for clarification
  • Corrections, takedown notices, or legal actions may be issued when required

The process follows COPE guidelines.
