Join the Yemeni Journal of Life Sciences Reviewer Network

The Yemeni Journal of Life Sciences invites researchers, academics, and scientific professionals with relevant expertise to join its Reviewer Network and contribute to rigorous, constructive, and ethical peer review across the life sciences.

The Reviewer Network is being developed to establish a diverse, reliable, and internationally connected community of reviewers across different disciplines and areas of expertise. This network will support the journal in identifying suitable reviewers for submitted manuscripts while strengthening the quality, fairness, and integrity of the peer-review process.

Registration is completed directly through the journal's online submission system. No external registration platform is required.

Who Can Join?

The invitation is open to researchers and scientific professionals with relevant expertise, including:

  • University faculty members
  • Researchers
  • Postdoctoral researchers
  • PhD researchers
  • Experienced scientific professionals
  • Early-career researchers with relevant expertise

Researchers from different disciplines within the life sciences are encouraged to register.

Registration does not constitute automatic appointment as a reviewer. Reviewer profiles may be reviewed by the Editorial Team based on academic background, expertise, experience, research interests, and suitability for the journal's peer-review needs.

Why Are We Building a Reviewer Network?

Peer review is one of the essential components of responsible scholarly publishing.

The Yemeni Journal of Life Sciences is committed to developing a reviewer community that reflects:

  • Scientific and disciplinary diversity
  • Geographic diversity
  • Relevant subject expertise
  • Professional and ethical peer-review practices

A diverse reviewer network helps the Editorial Team identify reviewers whose expertise is appropriately matched to the scientific content of submitted manuscripts.

Our goal is not simply to increase the number of reviewers, but to develop a reliable academic community that contributes meaningfully to research quality and integrity.

What Information Should You Provide?

When registering through the journal's OJS platform, researchers are encouraged to provide accurate and sufficiently detailed academic information.

Academic Information

This may include:

  • Full name
  • Academic degree
  • Academic or professional position
  • Institution
  • Department
  • Country
  • ORCID, where available
Reviewing Interests and Keywords

Researchers should provide their Reviewing Interests / Keywords as specifically as possible.

For example:

Antimicrobial resistance; medical microbiology; bacterial pathogens; antimicrobial susceptibility testing; multidrug-resistant organisms.

Or:

Medicinal plants; phytochemistry; plant extracts; antimicrobial activity; natural products.

Specific keywords help the Editorial Team identify appropriate expertise when matching reviewers to manuscripts.

Does Joining Mean You Must Accept Every Review Invitation?

No.

Joining the Reviewer Network does not require a researcher to accept every review invitation.

Review invitations are made according to factors such as:

  • Subject expertise
  • Research interests
  • Manuscript topic
  • Reviewer availability
  • Potential conflicts of interest
  • The journal's current editorial needs

Reviewers may accept or decline an invitation according to their availability and circumstances.

What Can Reviewers Gain?

The primary purpose of peer review is to contribute to the quality and integrity of scientific research. At the same time, the Yemeni Journal of Life Sciences aims to support and recognize the academic contribution of its reviewers.

Reviewer Training

The journal intends to provide opportunities for reviewer training, particularly for researchers who are developing their peer-review experience.

Training may address areas such as:

  • Fundamentals of peer review
  • Evaluating scientific manuscripts
  • Assessing research methodology
  • Evaluating results and discussion
  • Basic statistical assessment

Reviewer Certificates

Eligible reviewers who complete peer reviews in accordance with the journal's requirements may receive a:

Yemeni Journal of Life Sciences Reviewer Certificate

Certificate eligibility and issuance will be subject to the journal's reviewer and recognition policies.

Reviewer Recognition

The journal is working toward developing mechanisms to recognize meaningful reviewer contributions.

Depending on the journal's policies and available mechanisms, recognition may include:

  • Reviewer Recognition
  • Outstanding Reviewer Recognition
  • Annual Reviewer Recognition

Recognition will consider factors such as review quality, professionalism, and reliability, rather than simply the number of reviews completed.

ORCID Recognition

Where technically available and with the reviewer's consent, eligible peer-review activity may be documented through ORCID or other appropriate scholarly recognition mechanisms.

An International Academic Network

The Reviewer Network aims to bring together researchers from Yemen and around the world across diverse areas of the life sciences.

By joining the network, reviewers become part of a growing academic community that supports scholarly communication, exchange of expertise, and responsible research evaluation.

Our Reviewers' Responsibilities

Peer review is a professional academic responsibility. Reviewers joining the network are expected to:

  • Provide objective, fair, and constructive feedback.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and peer-review materials.
  • Declare potential conflicts of interest.
  • Decline reviews when they do not have the appropriate expertise or sufficient availability.
  • Complete reviews within the agreed timeframe whenever possible.
  • Evaluate manuscripts based on their scientific quality and relevance.
  • Avoid personal, discriminatory, or inappropriate comments.
  • Respect research integrity and publication ethics.
  • Provide comments that can help authors improve their work.

The journal values quality, integrity, confidentiality, fairness, and constructive scientific dialogue throughout the peer-review process.

Early-Career Researchers Are Welcome

The Yemeni Journal of Life Sciences welcomes early-career researchers who have relevant expertise in a defined area of the life sciences.

Previous reviewing experience is not necessarily required for every opportunity.

However, participation in peer review depends on:

Expertise + Manuscript Suitability + Editorial Assessment

Researchers at an early stage of their academic careers may also benefit from the journal's planned reviewer-training activities.
